Welcome! Greatest Gift Celebration for the Community

Everyone is Welcome!

Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. John 3:5.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17.

How Great Thou Art
Author: Carl Gustav Boberg; Translator: Stuart K. Hine (1949)

Tune: O STORE GUD

Oh Lord my God when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made

I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder

Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Prayer:
Holy Lord, God of Power and Wonder,

the earth is full of the glory of your love.

May we your children, born of the Spirit,

so bear witness to your Son Jesus Christ, crucified and risen,

that all the world may believe and have eternal life

through the One who saves,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

now and for ever. Amen.
Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us

Dorothy A Thrupp 1836

Savior, like a shepherd lead us, Much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us, For our use Thy folds prepare:

Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus, Thou hast bought us, Thine we are;

Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus, Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.
I Love to Tell the Story

Katie Hankey. William Fischer. 1866.

I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love.

I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;

it satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.

Memorial Day Reflection Devotion

Memorial Day Reflection Devotion Remember the Sacrifice

Every Memorial Day, we remember those who have died in the service of their country. In the United States, a place where such remembrances carry a deep and emotional significance is Arlington National Cemetery, near Washington, DC. Arlington is a serious place where, due to the passing of aging war veterans and the ongoing conflicts around the world, there are currently about 25 military funerals every day.
This is particularly difficult for The Old Guard, members of the 3rd US Infantry Regiment who serve at Arlington. It is their task to bear the bodies of the fallen and honor their sacrifice. The members of The Old Guard never forget the price of liberty, for they are reminded of it every day.
Believers in Christ have been given the Lord’s Supper as a reminder of what our freedom from sin cost the Lord Jesus Christ. As we partake of the bread and the cup, we fulfill His command to “do this in remembrance of Me.” 1 Cor. 11:24. But in the sober celebration of the sacrifice of Christ there is Peace and Joy. For we need not leave our remembrances at the Lord’s Table. Living our lives for the Savior can show the world that we will never forget the sacrifice He has made for us. – Bill Crowder. – Daily Bread.

On the Cross of Calvary – George Beverly Shea – performed by Joyful Singers

On the Cross of Calvary
Thank You, Lord, for dying for me On the cross of Calvary; Help me always to remember What You did to set me free. – Sper

Remembering Christ’s death for us should cause us to live for Him.

Prayer:

Gracious, Sovereign God, Lord of all nations,

On this Memorial Day, we pause to reflect upon our blessings as a nation and the high cost of those blessings for many.

Thank you for the freedom we enjoy in this country, for opportunities to flourish, and for the security of our land.

Thank you for those who have served in the armed services of our country, risking their lives for our liberty.

Thank you for those who have given their lives in service to our country, sacrificing in such a costly way for the sake of others.

Thank you for a day set apart, not just for celebration, but also for solemn remembrance as we consider the sacrifices of so many in our military.

O Lord, may we be more aware of just how blessed we are as a nation. May we be more grateful for our blessings, more faithful in stewarding them well, more eager to share them with others.

We pray today for the families and friends of those who have given their lives in service to our nation. May they be comforted in their sadness. May they be reassured that the sacrifice of their loved ones contributes to a worthy cause. May they be proud of those they have lost, entrusting their ultimate fate into your gracious hands.

Even as we remember those who have given their lives in the past, we also think of those whose lives are on the line today. We think especially of the men and women who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and in other places of conflict and violence. Protect them. Encourage them. Bring them home safely soon.

Give wisdom to the leaders of our armed services, that they might know how best to deploy the troops in the cause of freedom. May their efforts be successful, so that true peace with justice might be established in our world.

Guide those who lead our nation in international affairs. Help them to pursue diplomatic paths that prevent needless conflict. May they have your wisdom about when and how to use the military might you have entrusted to us.

God of peace, stir in the hearts of the leaders of all nations, and in all who would use violence to further their cause. Change their hearts and minds. Give them a passion for peace. Bring an end to the pain, suffering, injustice, and violence in our world.

We know, dear Lord, that ultimate peace will not come until your kingdom is here in all of its fullness. Nevertheless, we pray for a foretaste of the future. We ask for the growth of peace throughout our world today, so that fewer and fewer men and women will have to risk and even to sacrifice their lives. May your kingdom come, Lord, and your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven!

All praise be to you, God of grace, God of mercy, God of justice, God of peace!

Amen

 – Mark Roberts.

When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all Truth. John 16:13.

Holy Spirit, Ever Dwelling

Timothy Rees (1922).

 performed by Christopher Lawton

 Northenden Methodit Church.

Holy Spirit Ever Dwelling

Holy Spirit, ever dwelling

In the holiest realms of light;

Holy Spirit, ever brooding

O’er a world of gloom and night;

Holy Spirit, ever raising

Those of earth to thrones on high;

Living, life-imparting Spirit,

You we praise and magnify.

Prayer:

Creator Spirit and Giver of life,

make the dry, bleached bones of our lives

live and breathe and grow again

as you did of old.

Pour out your Spirit upon the whole creation.

Come in rushing wind and flashing fire

to turn the sin and sorrow within us

into faith, power, and delight. Amen.

Baptized in Water (Morning has Broken).

Michael Saward (1982), from the Gaelic (1888).

Baptized in Water

Baptized in water,

sealed by the Spirit,

cleansed by the blood of Christ, our King;

heirs of salvation,

trusting his promise,

faithfully now God’s praise we sing.

I want Jesus to Walk with Me
Spiritual
 performed by Eric Bibb.

I want Jesus to walk with me;
all along my pilgrim journey,
Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me.

This spiritual hymn focuses on a plea for Jesus to walk alongside us.  We pray that His answer is “yes.”  Please reflect on what it means to be in the presence of Jesus.

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:12

While he was blessing them, he was carried up into heaven. Luke 24.

Your Grace is Enough

Matt Maher
The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
      creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
      who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
      and born of the virgin Mary.
      He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
      was crucified, died, and was buried;
      he descended to hell.
      The third day he rose again from the dead.
      He ascended to heaven
      and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
      From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
      the holy catholic church,
      the communion of saints,
      the forgiveness of sins,
      the resurrection of the body,
      and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer:
  • Precious love,
    your ascended Son promised the gift of holy power.
    Send your Spirit of revelation and wisdom,
    that in the blessed freedom of hope,
    we may witness to the grace of forgiveness
    and sing songs of joy with the peoples of earth
    to the One who makes us one body. Amen.
