Love the Lord Celebration

Love the Lord Celebration  The Great Commandment

 for the Community

Traditional Modern Blend Theme

Everyone is Welcome!

Love the Lord Great Commandment Celebration introduction:

Here Deut. 6 encourages us to engage in love of the Lord with all we may imagine. Of course we will engage and demonstrate our love in the Lord to our neighbors, call on and encourage them to do the same.

Ps. 119 is a psalm of repetition that demonstrates the concept that we are what we engage in thought, behavior and willingness to follow in the tenets of our faith.

In Heb. 9., Jesus addresses Jewish tradition in order to present a clear direction that adopts the concept that He is both the High Priest and the sacrificial lamb.

Jesus is a gifted storyteller as told to us throughout Scripture, here in Mark. Here we have a scribe, clearly one of a class of people that follow behind and criticize Jesus at the time, who appears to agree with Jesus. This is remarkable that a follower of traditional Jewish law within a group generally opposing Jesus would demonstrate support for the Messiah and what He stands for in front of the people. Mark 12.

Scripture:

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Deut. 6:5.

Happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD. Ps. 119:1.

How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God! Heb. 9:14.

Great Commandment: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. Mark 12:30.

Psalm 119 Song –

 Zion Christian Press

 – brought to you by the letter Aleph

Prayer:
Providing God, you journeyed with Ruth and comforted Hannah when their lives were burdened by grief. Grant us faith to believe you will provide a future where we see none, that bitterness may turn to joy and barrenness may bear life. Amen.
Blessed Assurance

Text: Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915

Music: Phoebe P. Knapp, 1839-1908

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,

born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

Refrain:

This is my story, this is my song,

praising my Savior all the day long;

this is my story, this is my song,

praising my Savior all the day long.
Prayer:

Redeeming Sustainer, visit your people and pour out your strength and courage upon us, that we may hurry to make you welcome not only in our concern for others, but by serving them generously and faithfully in your name. Amen.
The Creed.

 – performed by The Crossing at St. Paul’s

Prayer:

Bless us with your healing presence; make us hungry for justice; strengthen our faith; and increase our love for others, especially those we find it most difficult to love. Amen.
I’d Rather have Jesus

 Performed by Buller, Ballzer and Aichele

I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold,

I’d rather be His than have riches untold;

I’d rather have Jesus than houses or land,

Yes, I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand.
Prayer:

Beloved Companion, you deal with us kindly in steadfast love, lifting up those bent low with care and sustaining the weak and oppressed. Release us from our anxious fears, that we, holding fast to your commandments, may honore you with all that we are and all that we have. Amen.

Day by Day

 Prayer by English Bishop St. Richard 1270.

Godspell 1971.

 Stephen Schwartz and John Michael Tebelik

Day by day, oh, dear Lord, three things I pray.

To see thee more clearly, Love thee more dearly, Follow thee more nearly, day by day.

Day by day, day by day; Oh, dear Lord, three things I pray.

To see thee more clearly, Love thee more dearly, Follow thee more nearly, day by day.
Prayer:

Eternal God, teach us to love you not only in mind and heart but also in purpose and action, that we may love the children of the earth, in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Celebrate Reformation Day

Celebrate Reformation Day Martin Luther

Salvation Justification by Faith Alone

For Lutherans, and other Protestant denominations, Reformation Day is an important holiday. Reformation Day is traditionally celebrated on the last Sunday in October. This day celebrates the beginning of the Reformation. The Reformation officially began with Martin Luther posting ninety-five theses on the door at the entrance to the Castle Church in the town of Wittenberg, Germany, in 1517 AD.

Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk, doctor of theology, and resident of Wittenberg, has the distinction of rediscovering the fundamental tenants of Christian faith, which at the time set the stage for a confrontation within the Church that would eventually lead to the Reformation.

History of the Reformation

The historical trends that brought about the Reformation began centuries before its actual occurrence. Some fundamental causes stem from the Church’s departure from the foundational teachings of Christ regarding a believer’s relationship with God, believers’ relationships with one another, and the means by which we receive salvation. It is professed that by the fifth century AD, about the time Rome fell, the Church adopted many practices contrary to the teachings of Christ as found in Biblical Scripture.

There are three notable perceived errors in doctrine standing out as major flaws in direct opposition to the teachings of Christ. These became the basis for Martin Luther’s ninety-five theses. The first error created a priesthood that acted as mediator between the believer and God, suggesting that direct communication between ordinary man and the Almighty was impossible. The second error established a pontiff, the pope, who would exercise authority over the entire Church. The third error related to the attainment of salvation through penitent works and charitable acts, rather than through the miracle of faith in Jesus Christ.

Faith alone is the foundational answer to the question, “What must I do to be saved?” The doctrine of justification by faith alone is at the center of Reformation theology, and remains critical for all believers today. This doctrine is continually under assault, yet without it, there is no real gospel message.

Text gleaned and summarized from the written teaching of Martin Luther and interpretation of Biblical Scripture.

Peace & Joy! Pastor Michael.

Faith Makes You Well Celebration

Faith Makes You Well Celebration  for the Community

Traditional Modern Blend Theme

Everyone is Welcome!

Faith Makes You Well Celebration introduction:

Job is challenged to see everything in his life from a fresh perspective. Job 42.

Evil destroys the wicked. The wicked will receive what is coming to them. The Lord redeems the soul of His servants. Satan does not take more than the leash the Lord keeps him on allows. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Ps. 34.

Hebrews offers explanation to the people. This priest will bring to fruition the long awaited hope for a New Covenant. From his vantage point as One living in the presence of the living God, He can affect a change in heart that will allow all of us to draw near to God as well. Heb. 7.

We focus on establishing Jesus’ identity and mission, and blind Bartimaeus appears in the narrative as a man who truly “sees” Jesus. As a story about healing we see someone experiences a problem, there is a factor that complicates matters, Jesus effects the cure, the result is confirmed, and then there is a response to the miracle.  Mark 10.

Church’s One Foundation

– lyrics – Samuel J Stone 1866

– music – Samuel Sebastian Wesley

The Church’s one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord;

She is His new creation By water and the Word:

From heav’n He came and sought her To be His holy Bride;

With His own blood He bought her, And for her life He died.

Scripture:

The LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his friends; and the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. Job 42:10.

Evil brings death to the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned. The LORD redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned. Ps. 34:21-2.

For the law appoints as high priests those who are subject to weakness, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever. Heb. 7:28.

Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way. Mark 10:51-2.

Psalm 34 Song – performed by Gospel Welpetz

Prayer:

Eternal One, whose thoughts and ways are not ours, you alone are God, awesome, holy, and most high. School us in the ways of faith and wisdom, that we, like Job, may learn to truly see and hear, and in humility find blessing. Amen.

PRAYER is the soul’s sincere desire.

James Montgomery 1818

Charles Wesley

PRAYER is the soul’s sincere desire, Uttered or unexpressed;

The motion of a hidden fire, That trembles in the breast.

Prayer is the burden of a sigh, The falling of a tear;

The upward glancing of an eye, When none but God is near.

Prayer:

Friends in Christ, God invites us to hold the needs of our sisters and brothers as dear to us as our own needs. Loving our neighbors as ourselves, we offer our thanksgivings and our petitions on behalf of the church and the world.  Hear our prayers, God of power, and through the ministry of your Son free us from the grip of the tomb, that we may desire you as the fullness of life and proclaim your saving deeds to all the world. Amen.

The Creed.

– performed by The Crossing at St. Paul’s

Prayer:

Creator God, you are wrapped in light as a garment, clothed with honor and majesty. Enlighten us with true faith and humble obedience that seeks to serve others in your name. Amen.

Joy to the World

Isaac Watts 1719

– performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir & USAFR

Joy to the World, the Lord has come! Let earth receive her King;

Let every heart prepare Him room, And Heaven and nature sing,

And Heaven and nature sing, And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Most High, your Anointed One offered himself freely as witness against our sin. As you delighted to call him your Son, give us the courage to bring you equal delight by our willingness to drink the cup of sacrifice on behalf or our sisters and brothers, and, with them, offer you praise unceasing and lives transformed as true heirs of your grace-filled realm. Amen

Greatness in Service Celebration introduction:
If we are able to comprehend the servant’s faithfulness, and that of our Lord Jesus who chooses to bear our sins, we will be living Isaiah 53.
Make the best of all your days on earth. Our salvation gifted by Jesus Christ yields us a bountiful existence within eternity.
Mortals of all kinds do succumb to sin from time to time, even the high priests. Jesus does not succumb to sin. Although He is extremely passionate in His pursuit of His obedience to His Father’s wishes, He does not err, Jesus displays perfection in behavior. This perfection is something we should seek to emulate.
Gospel
James and John follow Jesus’ revealing statement in a manner that demonstrates how little they have learned for the time they followed Jesus. James and John fail to acknowledge Jesus’ anticipation of suffering and death; instead they imagine a regal scene where they sit in positions of honor and power at King Jesus’ right and left. Sometimes we may say, “I wish I could be more like Jesus!” Is this really our wish? If we want this wish to come true, we must give our lives in service to others.

Scripture:
Therefore I will allot him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out himself to death. Isaiah 53:12.
Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name. Ps. 91:14.
Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you.” Heb. 5:5.
Whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant. Mark 10:43.

Be Thou My Vision
Dalian Forgaill
– performed by Irish Tenors

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Psalm 91 Song – Sons of Korah

Prayer:
Eternal One, whose thoughts and ways are not ours,
you alone are God, awesome, holy, and most high.
School us in the ways of faith and wisdom,
that we may learn to truly see and hear,
and in humility find blessing. Amen.

Inherit Eternal Life Celebration introduction:
Why do we experience a tension between the aspiration of knowing how we should live our lives as Christians following Jesus’ example and the way we actually live our lives day to day?
We have the Lord’s promise that He will be with us. Amos 5:14.
We pray the Lord will turn away from His wrath for our behavior. Ps. 90:12.
We must not replicate the lack of trust and disobedience of the Israelites that wandered in the wilderness. Lord God our father sent His son Jesus Christ to set an example for us and die to freely give us the gift of salvation. Hebrews.
Wealthy versus Impoverished. Money will not buy us everything. We must come to grips with our own system of values and practice humility. Mark. How do we find our way to salvation? God so loved the world that he sent his only Son so that whoever believes in him will have eternal life. John 3:16. It is our faith in Jesus, not our goodness that will get us to heaven.

Scripture:
Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the God of Hosts, will be with you. Amos 5:14.
Teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart. Ps. 90:12.
We have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. Heb. 4:14.
“Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Mark 10:17.

Have Thine Own Way Lord
Adelaide Pollard

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.
Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Psalm 90 Song – James Block

Prayer:
Eternal One, whose thoughts and ways are not ours,
you alone are God, awesome, holy, and most high.
School us in the ways of faith and wisdom,
that we may learn to truly see and hear,
and in humility find blessing. Amen.

Jesus Loves Me Celebration

Jesus Loves Me Celebration
for the Community
Country Gospel themed focus on Alan Jackson
Everyone is Welcome!

Jesus Loves Me introduction:
The Lord God created us in His image. We are the objects of God’s love and grace.
“Vulnerability” addressed in the gospel message.
Divorce is an example of human failure that is contrary to God’s intentions in creation, so Jesus says, “What God joined together, let no human separate.” God’s commands have a principle that directs them. Adultery is a harmful action against one’s God-joined partner. Experiencing God is like welcoming a child, not becoming like a child. Humility: Experiencing God’s dominion is not a way to become great but a way to identify with the least and to serve simply for Jesus’ sake. God embraces us and remains faithful. That is good news.

Scripture:
Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” Gen. 2:18.
O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Ps. 8:9.
Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. Heb. 2:11.
Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15.

Softly and Tenderly
– Alan Jackson

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me.
See, on the portals, He’s waiting and watching;
Watching for you and for me.

Prayer:
Eternal One, whose thoughts and ways are not ours,
you alone are God, awesome, holy, and most high.
School us in the ways of faith and wisdom,
that we, like Job,
may learn to truly see and hear,
and in humility find blessing. Amen.

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear.
Joseph Scriven.. 1855.
– performed by Alan Jackson

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

How Majestic Is (Psalm 8). Hoss Hughes.

Prayer:
Lord God, friend of those in need,
your Son Jesus has untied our burdens
and healed our spirits.
We lift up the prayers of our hearts for those still burdened,
those seeking healing,
those in need within the church and the world.
Hear our prayers
that we may love you with our whole being
and willingly share the concerns of our neighbors. Amen.

Blessed Assurance

Born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Prayer:
Sovereign God,
you make us for each other,
to live in loving community
as friends, sons and daughters,
sisters and brothers, wives and husband,
partners and companions.
Teach us to choose love
that is committed and devoted;
teach us like little children
to wonder and to trust,
that our loving may reflect the image of Christ. Amen.
