Treasure Ahead
Treasure Ahead

Introduction:
Do It! What if we found our treasure in Prayer?
Once when Jesus and his disciples were together, they asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. There was not a lot of formal ritual in the response. Jesus said to His disciples, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” In other words, Jesus told his disciples the most important rule of prayer is “Do It!”

God of the women who answered your call

Carolyn Winfrey Gillette (1998).
Tune: Be Thou My Vision. – Celtic Spirit.

God of the women who answered your call,
Trusting your promises, giving their all,
Women like Sarah and Hannah and Ruth,
Give us their courage to live in your truth.

Scripture:

The LORD said, “How great is the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah and how very grave their sin. Gen. 18:20.
They shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD. Ps. 138:5.
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him. Col. 2:6.
So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:9-10.

Psalm 138: You Answered Me
Haas

Prayer: God of justice,
your word is light and truth.
Let your face shine on us to restore us,
that we may walk in your way,
seeking justice and doing good. Amen.

All hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Edward Perronet (1784).
arranged by Sterling Procter

All hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all!

Prayer: Lord God, friend of those in need,
your Son Jesus has untied our burdens
and healed our spirits.
We lift up the prayers of our hearts for those still burdened,
those seeking healing,
those in need within the church and the world.

Hear our prayers
that we may love you with our whole being
and willingly share the concerns.
I lay my sins on Jesus
Horatius Bonar (1848).

I lay my sins on Jesus,
The spotless Lamb of God;
He bears them all, and frees us
From the accursed load.
I bring my guilt to Jesus,
To wash my crimson stains
White in His blood most precious,
Till not a spot remains.

Prayer: Living God, you raise us to fullness of being
in sharing the Christ-life together.
Teach us to pray
and grant us hopeful persistence
in seeking your will and your way,
that by the power of the Spirit,
love and faithfulness may meet
to disarm the powers of the world. Amen.

Introduction:
As we experience our daily lives, we find that we have choices to make. Hindsight may well inform us if we made the best choice. Are there times when we are so blind to the possibility that choices exist that we miss the opportunity that presents itself?

Scripture:
My Lord, if I find favor with you, do not pass by your servant. Gen. 18:3.
O LORD, who may abide in your tent? Ps. 15:1.
For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell. Col. 1:19.
Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her. Luke 10:42.

While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
Refrain:
Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry,
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for You

It is you, Lord
Who came to save
The heart and soul
Of every man
It is you Lord
Who knows my weakness
Who gives me strength,
With thine own hand.

Prayer:
Friends in Christ,
God invites us to hold the needs of our sisters and brothers
as dear to us as our own needs.
Loving our neighbors as ourselves,
we offer our thanksgivings and our petitions
on behalf of the church and the world.

Hear our prayers, God of power,
and through the ministry of your Son
free us from the grip of the tomb,
that we may desire you as the fullness of life
and proclaim your saving deeds to all the world. Amen.

Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross
Fanny Crosby

Jesus, keep me near the cross;
there a precious fountain,
free to all, a healing stream,
flows from Calvary’s mountain.
Refrain:
In the cross, in the cross,
be my glory ever,
till my raptured soul shall find
rest beyond the river.

Prayer: Dear Lord, God of Abraham and Sarah,
in due season, you fulfilled a promise almost too wonderful to imagine.
Awaken us to the workings of your will in our midst,
and keep us attentive to the things that matter,
until the day when Your mystery,
hidden throughout the ages,
stands fully revealed in the kingdom of all Your saints. Amen.

Sitting at the Feet of Jesus
Wesley Pritchard
performed by Gaithersburg Band

Sitting at the feet of Jesus,
Oh, what words I hear Him say!
Happy place! so near, so precious!
May it find me there each day;
Sitting at the feet of Jesus,
I would look upon the past;
For His love has been so gracious,
It has won my heart at last.

Dinner and a Play

Pastor Michael and a small group of us went to dinner and a play this evening.

This is a great opportunity for a “break” in the middle of the week, an opportunity to meet like minded people as we build strength in our witness to Jesus and the Holy Spirit in the community.

Musical Drama Cast
Musical Drama Cast

We met the cast, coaches and directors, visited and watched “The Point of It!” a Musical by Miranda Smith Kalhorn, and “Be a Good Soldier for Jesus Christ,” a Drama by Glenn Smith.

The young actors poured their hearts into this wonderful pair of performances. We join together as an audience to highly recommend their efforts and pray for blessings, happiness and success in their futures.

This performance is brought to us by the ministry of Camp Witness Bible Conference Association.

Love Your Neighbor
Love Your Neighbor

Love Your Neighbor Introduction:
What does it really mean to love your neighbor?
This is accomplished with a proper state of mind as we approach our daily life in His service and develop our spiritual identity and character.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself. Luke 10:27.
Of course it takes a lawyer of Christ’s time to deliver a question that he figures may challenge our Savior.
Obey the LORD your God by observing his commandments and decrees that are written in this book of the law. Deut. 30:10.
May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from His glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father. Col. 1:11.
Lord, we hear your word with gladness
Edith Margaret Clarkson

Lord, we hear your word with gladness: you have
spoken—we rejoice:
words of love and life and freedom—help us make
their truth our choice!
Now in holy celebration for your Word we worship
you;
spoken, written, known in Jesus, ours today to
prove anew.

Love Your Neighbor Scripture:
The LORD will again take delight in prospering you, just as he delighted in prospering your ancestors. Deut. 30:9.
To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. Ps. 25:1.
We have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, Col. 1:9.
“Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Luke 10:25.
Prayer:
Dear Lord God of justice,
your word is light and truth.
Let your face shine on us to restore us,
that we may walk in your way,
seeking justice and doing good. Amen.
Teach Me Thy Way O Lord
Benjamin Mansell Ramsey (1919).

Teach me Your way, O Lord, teach me Your way!
Your guiding grace afford, teach me Your way!
Help me to walk aright, more by faith, less by sight;
lead me with heavenly light, teach me Your way!
When I am sad at heart, teach me Your way!
When earthly joys depart, teach me Your way!
Prayer:
Friends in Christ,
God invites us to hold the needs of our sisters and brothers
as dear to us as our own needs.
Loving our neighbors as ourselves,
we offer our thanksgivings and our petitions
on behalf of the church and the world.

Prayers of the People.

Hear our prayers, God of power,
and through the ministry of your Son
free us from the grip of the tomb,
that we may desire you as the fullness of life
and proclaim your saving deeds to all the world. Amen.
Living for Jesus a Life that is True
Thomas Chisholm (1917).

Living for Jesus, a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
Prayer: Almighty God,
you give the holy law to your people
so that it will always be near us and our children.
Through our Lord Jesus who has fulfilled the law in every way,
grant that we may love you with heart, soul, strength, and mind,
and our neighbor as ourselves. Amen.

Travel Prayer

Travel Prayer
Teacher, this holiday we see so many travelers present at all places of public and private mass transportation. World News brings us so much press coverage of risk in travel to or through places that we may have felt safe on past journeys. How do we pray for people traveling this holiday?

Journey is the Reward
Journey is the Reward

Prayer before Travel. Martin Luther.

Lord God our Father, you kept Abraham and Sarah in safety throughout the days of their pilgrimage, you led the children of Israel through the midst of the sea, and by a star you led the Wise Men to the infant Jesus. Protect and guide us now in this time as we set out to travel, make our ways safe and our homecomings joyful, and bring us at last to our heavenly home, where you dwell in glory with your Son and the Holy Spirit, Lord God forever. Amen

Prayer as We Travel

Lord, thank you for your hand over this trip and allowing me to get away. I do not need to tell you that things may not be as safe as I, my parents, or loved ones would like, this you know, so I ask that you lay your protection over me and those I travel with on this trip. I ask that your will be done as we head out on our travels, away from home.

Please, Lord, direct my steps and provide me peace throughout this trip. Let those I encounter on my trip be blessed by my words that come from the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Let my hands be filled with your work, and my thoughts be filled with your grace and kind words for others. May I be a light unto those around me as I am away from home.

Thank you, Lord, for your blessings over these travels. In your Holy Name I Trust. Amen.

Plentiful Harvest
Plentiful Harvest

Introduction:
It takes an effort to harvest the fruit of our labor, but doesn’t it bring joy to realize the accomplishments! Isaiah the prophet lets us know the Lord loves us and will bring us comfort.
David wants us to celebrate Gods love for us loudly!
In Galatians the Apostle Paul reminds us that we should invest our energy in good works for we will reap what we sow.
Luke sends us out into the community to spread the Good News and not worry if our words fall on deaf ears. We will find Gods love.

Welcome Happy Morning
by Venantius Fortunatus, c. 530-609
Translated by John Ellerton, 1826-1893

Welcome, happy morning!” Age to age shall say;
Hell today is vanquished, heaven is won today!”
Lo, the Dead is living, God forevermore!
Him, their true Creator, all His works adore.
“Welcome, happy morning!” age to age shall say;
Hell today is vanquished, heaven is won today!”

Scripture:
As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you. Is. 66:13.
Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth. Ps. 66:1.
You reap whatever you sow. Gal. 6:7.
Peace to this house! Luke 10:5.

I Love to Tell the Story
Kate Hankey (1866).

I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story,
Because I know its true;
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else would do.
I love to tell the story,
‘Twill be my theme in glory
To tell the old, old story
Of Jesus and His love.

Prayer: Lord God of fresh beginnings,
you make all things new
in the wisdom of Jesus Christ.
Make us agents of your transforming power
and heralds of your reign of justice and peace,
that all may share in the healing Christ brings. Amen.

O Holy Spirit, Lord of Grace
Charles Coffin

O Holy Spirit, Lord of grace,
eternal fount of love,
inflame, we pray, our inmost hearts
with fire from heaven above.

Prayer: Dear Lord God of salvation,
who sent your Son to seek out and save what is lost,
hear our prayers
on behalf of those who are lost in our day,
receiving these petitions and thanksgivings
with your unending compassion.

We offer our prayers to you.

Redeeming Sustainer,
visit your people
and pour out your strength and courage upon us,
that we may hurry to make you welcome
not only in our concern for others,
but by serving them
generously and faithfully in your name. Amen.

Good Christian Friends Rejoice
John Mason Neale.
performed by PFC-UCC

Good Christian friends, rejoice
with heart and soul and voice;
give ye heed to what we say:
Jesus Christ was born today.
Ox and ass before him bow,
and he is in the manger now.
Christ is born today!
Christ is born today!

Prayer: Lord God of all nations and peoples,
your Son commanded his disciples
to preach and heal throughout the world.
Grant us, by the power of the Holy Spirit,
the zeal to proclaim the good news of peace and justice,
and gather all humanity into life with you. Amen.

Fathers Day
Fathers Day

Miraculous Healing Introduction:
There is much uncleanliness that begins today’s gospel lesson. Luke paints a picture that is worth a thousand words. The man possessed by demons is freed from their grip. He is grateful. Now the villagers who came to witness this exorcism want to be left alone without the presence of Jesus. They are scared. The formerly possessed man will proclaim Jesus as the Son of God.
In Isaiah our Lord God is willing to pay dearly to be with His people. Even though as Gods people we are immature, emo, and much less than perfect, our Lord God waits for us with open arms.
Our Psalm mirrors Isaiah in full concert with the meaning of the phrase the Lord Hears the Cry of the Poor.
Paul assures the Galatians that they are Children of God, Saved through their Faith and NOT due to the Law.

Shepherd Me O God
Marty Haugen

Shepherd me, O God, beyond my wants,
beyond my fears, from death into life.

God is my shepherd, so nothing I shall want,
I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love,
I walk by the quiet waters of peace.
Miraculous Healing Scripture:
Here I am, Here I am. Is. 65:1.
Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me. Ps. 43:3.
In Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. Gal. 3:26.
Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you. Luke 8:39.

Cry of the Poor
John Foley, SJ.
https://youtu.be/J_82nCOH6CY

Prayer: Beckoning Lord God,
as you moved in the lives of Elijah and Elisha,
move in our lives,
inviting us to journey to unknown territory,
to listen for your voice,
and to speak your prophetic word
in a world that does not want to hear.
empowered by your Spirit,
grant us the courage we need
to journey, trust, listen, speak,
and accept your commission
to be your faithful servant people. Amen.

Let Us Break Bread Together on Our Knees
– performed by First Christian Church

Let us break bread together on our knees.
Let us break bread together on our knees.

When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

Prayer: Lord God our refuge and hope,
when race, status, or gender divide us,
when despondency and despair haunt and afflict us,
when community lies shattered:
comfort and convict us with the stillness of your presence,
that we may confess all you have done,
through Christ to whom we belong
and in whom we are one. Amen.

Will the Circle be Unbroken
Ada Habershon (1907).
– performed by Randy Travis

I was standing by my window
On a cold and cloudy day
When I saw the hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away.
Will the circle be unbroken

In the sky Lord, in the sky.

Gift of Freedom Celebration Introduction:
Although Jesus Christ died for the sin that would otherwise deliver us to damnation and He gifted us Salvation, we are still free to choose our course in life; will this choice be doing good or evil?
Today’s lessons bring us examples of freedom to do that which is good works, pleasing to the Lord, and that which will allow us to enter the gates of hell of our own choosing. Where are our hearts, souls and minds today?
Whether we visit the story in 1 Kings 21 or 2 Sam. 11, mankind is tempted to engage sinful behavior through unfettered wicked desire.
Our psalm reaches out and prays for guidance.
In Galatians, the Apostle Paul guides his church people to both understand the gift of salvation and make best choices.
Luke, Apostle and Evangelist, compares greater and lesser debt. We know both are able to be unselfishly offered and graciously accepted.
This is a good time for us to reflect on our own lives, seek guidance and make our lives paths straight.

Rock of Ages
Augustus Toplady (1775).
– performed by Antrim Mennonite Choir.

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee;
let the water and the blood,
from thy wounded side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure;
save from wrath and make me pure.

Gift of Freedom Celebration Scripture:
Jezebel came to him and said, “Why are you so depressed that you will not eat?” 1 Kings 21:5.
Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me. Ps. 5:8.
We know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. Gal. 2:16.
I tell you, her sins, which were many, have been forgiven; hence she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little. Luke 7:47.

Prayer:
Lord God of mercy and healing,
you who hear the cries of those in need,
receive these petitions of your people
that all who are troubled
may know peace, comfort, and courage.

Life-giving God,
heal our lives,
that we may acknowledge your wonderful deeds
and offer you thanks from generation to generation
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

My Jesus I Love Thee.
William Featherstone (1864).
– performed by CRC Worship

My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine;
for thee all the follies of sin I resign;
my gracious Redeemer, my Savior art thou;
if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

Prayer: Lord God of compassion,
you suffer in the grief of your people,
and you are present to heal and forgive.
May the sun of your justice rise on every night of oppression,
and may the warm rays of your healing love
renew each troubled mind;
for you are the God of salvation and new life,
made known to us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
