Love the Lord Celebration  The Great Commandment

Everyone is Welcome!

Love the Lord Great Commandment Celebration introduction:

Here Deut. 6 encourages us to engage in love of the Lord with all we may imagine. Of course we will engage and demonstrate our love in the Lord to our neighbors, call on and encourage them to do the same.

Ps. 119 is a psalm of repetition that demonstrates the concept that we are what we engage in thought, behavior and willingness to follow in the tenets of our faith.

In Heb. 9., Jesus addresses Jewish tradition in order to present a clear direction that adopts the concept that He is both the High Priest and the sacrificial lamb.

Jesus is a gifted storyteller as told to us throughout Scripture, here in Mark. Here we have a scribe, clearly one of a class of people that follow behind and criticize Jesus at the time, who appears to agree with Jesus. This is remarkable that a follower of traditional Jewish law within a group generally opposing Jesus would demonstrate support for the Messiah and what He stands for in front of the people. Mark 12.

Scripture:

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Deut. 6:5.

Happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD. Ps. 119:1.

How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God! Heb. 9:14.

Great Commandment: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. Mark 12:30.

Prayer:
Providing God, you journeyed with Ruth and comforted Hannah when their lives were burdened by grief. Grant us faith to believe you will provide a future where we see none, that bitterness may turn to joy and barrenness may bear life. Amen.
Blessed Assurance

Text: Fanny J. Crosby, 1820-1915

Music: Phoebe P. Knapp, 1839-1908

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,

born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

Refrain:

This is my story, this is my song,

praising my Savior all the day long;

this is my story, this is my song,

praising my Savior all the day long.
Prayer:

Redeeming Sustainer, visit your people and pour out your strength and courage upon us, that we may hurry to make you welcome not only in our concern for others, but by serving them generously and faithfully in your name. Amen.
The Creed.

 – performed by The Crossing at St. Paul’s

Prayer:

Bless us with your healing presence; make us hungry for justice; strengthen our faith; and increase our love for others, especially those we find it most difficult to love. Amen.
I’d Rather have Jesus

Performed by Buller, Ballzer and Aichele

I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold,

I’d rather be His than have riches untold;

I’d rather have Jesus than houses or land,

Yes, I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand.
Prayer:

Beloved Companion, you deal with us kindly in steadfast love, lifting up those bent low with care and sustaining the weak and oppressed. Release us from our anxious fears, that we, holding fast to your commandments, may honore you with all that we are and all that we have. Amen.

Day by Day

Prayer by English Bishop St. Richard 1270.

Godspell 1971.

Stephen Schwartz and John Michael Tebelik

Day by day, oh, dear Lord, three things I pray.

To see thee more clearly, Love thee more dearly, Follow thee more nearly, day by day.

Day by day, day by day; Oh, dear Lord, three things I pray.

To see thee more clearly, Love thee more dearly, Follow thee more nearly, day by day.
Prayer:

Eternal God, teach us to love you not only in mind and heart but also in purpose and action, that we may love the children of the earth, in Jesus Christ. Amen.
